Tomorrow is my last RB session and, to be bluntly honest, I would rather not spend the night sitting in a hot leather chair humming songs that I don't know.
So instead, I say let's all go out to our favorite pub (Pub Italia?), have a drink or two and reminisce of the good times we've had with both RB 1 and 2. We could all meet up at Phoenix's house around 8ish (sorry for volunteering your house man, but its the usual gathering point) and take a car from there down to the pub.
Let me know what you guys think. :D

Beer of the week #10
To celebrate the 10th edition of "Beer of the week", here is a very short list. ;)
1- Mill Street Coffee Porter: This is an interesting beer brewed with coffee. It is 5.5% and is not for everyone, but I enjoyed it even if I don't like coffee that much. :)
2- We had the good ol' Old Engine Oil again :D, but no need to describe it a 2nd time... ;)

Beer of the week #9
The list is still a bit short this week but maybe I am just trying to prove I am not addicted to beer? :p
I find it is important to try beer more than once... and try many different types. Did you ever run into someone who simply said: "I don't like beer... I've had it once in a party in college and it was awful."
Let me tell you that if the only beer you ever had was a beer at a "party in college", you are probably basing your prejudice against beer on Budweiser, Coors Light, Molson, etc..., any of these cheap 24-pack beers.
I URGE you to give it another try and get our economy rolling! :D
Enough ranting... here are today’s beers:
1) Blanche de Chambly: Another good beer by Unibroue. It is a white beer with 5% alcohol with a nice spicy taste. I find it a great light summer beer.
2) This next one brings up my rant again: "OCHAKOVO" (it's a Russian name, probably pronounced "usnakova"? ... my Russian is VERY rusty...) A 4.5% Russian lager with NO aftertaste and a very light taste. If you say you don't like beer, do yourself a favor and at least try this one!!! It’s PERFECT to introduce you to the world of beer. Even to the experienced beer drinker, it is light but still refreshing.

Beer of the week #8
Hi, we have 2 new beers for you this week.
1) Liberty Ale: Straight from Liberty City, this is probably one of the best ales I've ever had. It has 5.9% alcohol and is pretty smooth and has no aftertaste. I recommend this one!
2) Thomas Hardy's Ale: At 11.7%, this beer is aged for a minimum of 25 years in the bottle. This beer tastes very strong and is best when served cold. It's a good idea to drink it before it gets warm. It is a bit expensive (5$ / 250ml), but its a great beer to try.

Beer of the week #7
Hi!
I only have 2 beers to announce this week, both very distinct in flavor:
1) St-Ambroise Apricot Wheat Ale (5%) - A very light lager type beer with an apricot after taste. This is very refreshing and would be great during summer!
2) Abbey Belgian Spiced Ale (6.2%) - One word: Chocolate beer (OK, that's two words.... but you get the point). It is a very smooth ale with a very good chocolaty taste.
Short post but I'm tired... :)
Enjoy!

Beer of the week #6
A bit late once again (especially considering our session was Tuesday last week!) but I present to you a few great beers and one awful beer:
1) Griffon Rousse: A good reddish-brown beer with practically no alcohol (4.5%). It had a good nutty taste and wasn't too strong.
2) Try to pronounce this one very fast: Black Riggwelter. On the bottle it describes that name as meaning a sheep that fell on its back and can’t get up... At first it tasted like a very mild tasting stout (5.6% alcohol). But then, as the aftertaste slowly came, I felt like that sheep on its back... Be careful! Have some food ready if you try this one.
3) Now comes the time to announce the best stout in the world! Old Engine Oil! That’s right, don’t let the name fool you... :) The last time I found this Scottish beer in stock was last summer so as soon as I found it on the shelf, I bought pretty much all I + Raikan could carry! This 6% stout has a very pronounced taste and has the perfect balance of taste, texture and smell.

Beer of the week #5
Even in the world of unemployment it is very important to savor the moment. Of course you all guessed it is time for the beer of the week!
Since we no longer have jobs to tend to in the morning, it is the perfect time to start drinking some quality beer. Tonight’s beer list is longer than usual:
1) Kawartha Lakes Brewery Raspberry Wheat beer: This one smells like raspberries, but the taste is slightly off. This beer is very weak (4.5% alcohol) and has a raspberry taste but it doesn’t mix too well with the overall taste of the beer. Overall it is fun to try but I wouldn’t buy a 24.
2) Kawartha Lakes Brewery Nut Brown Ale: A weak version of the Rogue Nut Brown Nectar. Although it is much cheaper, I would recommend investing a bit more and going for Rogue. If you are curious this one has 5.1% alcohol.
3) Duvel: A very fruity and strong tasting Belgian beer. Watch out when pouring it because I had about 5 inches of head in my glass and no beer. :) It has 8% alcohol content and is best drank out of a glass.
4) Bornem Tripel: No this is not a typo, it is yet another Belgian beer. I would say it is very similar to Duvel (fruity beer) but the taste is very weak. Maybe it is because i drank it right after a Duvel? It is a 9% alcohol but the alcohol taste is very subtle. Anyways, try it out, it's a good one.

Beer of the week #4
Hi fellow beer club members. For this fourth edition, we have 2 beers that will make your head spin!
The first one we had was the renowned "La Fin du Monde" by Unibroue. It has a golden color and has a great balance of malt, fruit and spice. I find this one remarkably smooth given its 9% alcohol content. Note to self: drink this one slowly. :)
Our second beer was a Belgium one called "Piraat". Do you remember what I said about Goldeen Draak in the previous beer of the week post? I will have to say it is a closely related cousin to the famous Draak. It also has 10.5% alcohol but it tastes a bit less sweet than its cousin. I like it a bit more since it has a nice rye-whisky after taste. Another definite must-try!
That’s it for this week! Remember: always consume in moderation! If you find that too hard to do, buy the expensive stuff! You’ll have no choice but to ration it... ;)

Beer of the week #3
Better late than never my friends! This week we tried two different beers during our session.
The first one was Unibroue's Trois Pistoles. I found it pretty good but not as good as "La Fin du Monde" (one of the breweries other strong beer). I found its taste pretty strong. And coming with 9% alcohol, you don’t want to drink too much of this one ;)
The second beer we had was perhaps the most unique I have ever tasted. Its name is "Golden Draak" and it is a Belgium beer with 10.5% alcohol. Some high % beers manage to pull it off without that overwhelming "rubbing alcohol taste" but Golden Draak didn’t care much to hide it. In fact, it must be brewed to make that taste even more pronounced from the looks of it. To balance it out, it is also very sweet which was kind of odd too. As weird as it may seem: I found it actually tasted good :). Overall I rate this beer as "So whacky you HAVE to try it at least once".
Talk to you next week!

Beer of the week #2
I have a nice long list for this great holiday 3MaaR session. Worry not, these beers were small bottles and we kept our senses throughout the day as you can see from our last results post.
Let's list last session's delicacies in order of alchool %.
1) Bruegel Amber Ale
At 5.2%, I found this Belgian ale decent in taste. As odd as it may sound, I found this beer tasted like apple juice... On the opposite scale of tastes, DMan found it tasted like ashes!? Don't worry, this is just the opinion of the reject ;)
2) Great Lakes Brewery Winter Ale
This brewery always comes up with some fancy and different ales. This complex ale (6.2%) had a lot of spice in it: cinnamon, ginger, orange peel and honey. The wonderful part is you can actually taste all four in every sip.
3) Rogue Hazlenut Brown Nectar
One of the band's favorites! A great "strong" beer (6.2%) with a full taste of hazlenuts. It is a bit expensive (~6$ for 650ml) but very much worth the price.
4) Bornem Dubbel
The second Belgian beer of the night (7%) was another dark beer. I personally found it too spicy and won't buy it again. I'd say its a stronger version of Bruegel (mentioned earlier in this post). guess I'll be the one to say it tastes like ashes this time :). DMan hated it so much he spilled it on my beautiful pink carpet!
5) Augustijn
Yet again a Belgian beer but pretty strong this time (8%). This beer was very different from the others of the session both in color (blonde) and in taste (sweet). It felt good after all these spicy ales!

Beer of the week
Hi there, to celebrate the holiday season, let's start a new tradion for 2009!
Since Phoenix and Bongoo have a taste of 1 or 2 new beers every week, we decided to share what we try with you and give you our feedback.
This week's beer was exceptionaly strong: Aventinus Weizen Eisbock.
Since this ale has 12% alcohol, it is the only one we tried tonight (we have to keep a minimal level of mental awareness for our sessions ;) ). It is a dark colored beer with a very complex taste.
As strong as it may seem, this beer was esceptionally smooth and somewhat sweet. One of our groupies (the Trapper) describes it as a "strong alchoolic rootbeer". I personally would compare this beer to a white wine...
Try it out and let us know. :)
